Flatt Lonesome: New Old Stock

I heard songs by Flatt Lonesome three times over the weekend and each time I stopped and said, "who is that?" They're young and new, with one album out as of January 2013, but they really know their bluegrass.

There are three free songs on their site, but this is particularly fun.

Walls (featuring Quilla) [Original mix] - Sultan and Ned Shepard

This song is so joyous it makes me cry. That's the beautiful thing about great house music--it's pure love.

Music: Martin Solveig, Jealousy

So help me, I just love this song. It's bouncy and poppy and has a 17-piece horn section and Solveig can do no wrong. This song inspired an entire remix album and it isn't even the best track on 2010's Hedonist; that honor belongs to opening track "Everybody," although "Jealousy" is arguably more fun.

Books: Farlander - Col Buchanon

I'm in the middle of quasi-steampunk novel Farlander right now. It's a nice debut, highly original and occasionally very gritty, if a little slow going at times.

The Heart of the World is a land in strife. For fifty years the Holy Empire of Mann, an empire and religion born from a nihilistic urban cult, has been conquering nation after nation. Their leader, Holy Matriarch Sasheen, ruthlessly maintains control through her Diplomats, priests trained as subtle predators.
Ash is a member of an elite group of assassins, the Roshun, who offer protection through the threat of vendetta. Forced by his ailing health to take on an apprentice, he chooses Nico, a young man living in the besieged city of Bar-Khos. At the time, Nico is hungry, desperate, and alone in a city that finds itself teetering on the brink.
When the Holy Matriarch’s son deliberately murders a woman under the protection of the Roshun; he forces the sect to seek his life in retribution. As Ash and his young apprentice set out to fulfill the Roshun orders, their journey takes them into the heart of the conflict between the Empire and the Free Ports…into bloodshed and death.

print $2.54 for the 400-page hardcover? Brand new? What?
Or I can just loan you my copy sometime.

Music: Levels - Skrillex Remix

This is one of the most recent things I starred on Spotify, from the Levels Remixes album. Skrillex remix of Avicii's Levels. I like the deep beats here.

Welcome to the A-list

My friend Alyssa says she wishes she had a friend like me, which is odd, because ibid. It was in response to my launching The Cars of Lehho, which is an alternative to emailing car suggestions to my friend Lehho.

It took us a while to figure out what I was going to be suggesting for her in a public forum, but we decided on books and music. As I read a lot of scifi/fantasy, and my music tastes run toward a combination of classic country and house/electronica, she'll probably be horrified/bored/amused.
